Right, a brief history lesson. We would love to say that Salsa was started by a fella called Pedro who walked and sailed from his village in Mexico to find himself in Penrith and opened up our restaurant! However this would be a blatant lie! Salsa was actually started by a bloke called Andy who originally hailed from Ireby (roughly 20 miles away).
After travelling the world being a chef and working in Mexican restaurants in various countries including Mexico, Spain, Denmark and New Zealand, Andy armed with a vast range of recipe’s opened up Salsa Mexican Bistro in Keswick in 2001. After a successful few years he joined forces with Steve Stables who went on to open Salsa Penrith in 2006, where we quickly got a good reputation with locals and visitors alike.
In may 2015 Andy left the business he started up after 14 years at the helm to go travelling, leaving Steve to carry on at the good ship Salsa. After closing briefly for refurbishment where a new bar area was created and upgrades to both the food and drink menus were undertaken Salsa has gone from strength to strength.
At Salsa we are sure you will appreciate the range of drinks on offer to help increase your dining experience with us. So if you’re into beer we have San Miguel and Samuel Adams Craft lager on draft, or a range of Mexican beer and craft ales in bottles.
We also offer a range of fresh cocktails which are prepared in front of you if you are in the bar area. Using only premium spirits and fresh mixers these have quickly become a hit with our customers!
All of our wines have been blind taste tested and approved by James Pedley, master of wines to help ensure we deliver the very best at affordable prices. We also offer a vast range of bottled fruit ciders, spirits and Liqueurs.
Finally, at Salsa we don’t just like tequila we love it!! So feel free to make sure your night is really Mexican by sampling from our extensive tequila menu, where if you wish you can even try the famous tequila worm!!
Our Mexican inspired menu has evolved and perfected over the years to the stage where we now virtually have all of our dishes made from scratch using the freshest local ingredients. Whether its our famous pulled chilli beef which is an 8 hour process to prepare, or our slow cooked tender pork ribs which are cooked for over 4 hours and fall off the bone, we are sure your taste buds will have a night to remember!!
At Salsa we like to keep things flexible which is why we have a number of different menus depending on your circumstances. If you fancy to sample a range of dishes then why not order a few small dishes off our tapas menu? Fancy something more substantial then why not try from our extensive main course menu or combine the two menus and have a starter and a main?
For groups of 6 or more we also offer a fixed price party menu. For £15.95 a head you will enjoy a two course menu including a combination starter and a choice of main course with a free shot of tequila each to help get your night off with a bang!!
Finally, if you wish to enjoy the Salsa experience from the comfort of your own home then we do offer takeaways which can be ordered over the phone and picked up from the restaurant. (Please allow for 20-45 mins depending on size and how busy we are at the time).
